bolzano has a noticeable tyrolean atmosphere. its old town centre is dominated by the gothic cathedral (15th century) which can be distinguished by its multicoloured mosaic tile roof and its pierced tunnelled steeples. the "wine door" is to be found inside, carved with drawings of farmers involved in tendrils. houses with tympans, balconies and verandas are to be found along the roads and multicoloured mosaics often decorate the façades. the civic museum presents the history of the sud tirolo with domestic furnishings, wooden sculptures and costumes. the church of the dominicans preserves the fourteenth-century trionfo della morte fresco and a frescoed cloistered cloister.
