the national archaeological museum of cagliari within the museum citadel unites various museums: specifically, the national picture gallery, the communal arts gallery, the regional ethnographic museum (in fieri), as well as research institutes, including the department of archaeological science and art. the exhibition is of a temporary nature and will be enlarged in the near future.
the museum is open to the public continuously (from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm) and exposes finds that embrace a time period starting from remote neolithic (vi millennium bc), to an ample overview of nuragic bronzes (weapons, utensils, figurines), to material of punic and roman origin, and finally, numerous objects from the late medieval period.
the exposition is accompanied by informative illustrative panels associated with each showcase. the elimination of architectural barriers makes it accessible to the disabled, and also, there is a section dedicated to the blind. in addition to summarizing the exhibitions of the musuem, this document provides information about the island's archaeology.
