Santa Maria di Leuca
This is the Japigium promontorium, the top of the peninsula; a lighthouse marks the divide between the Ionia and the Adriatic. On the cape, lying on the white coast, is the sanctuary of the same name, built on a pre-existing temple of Minerva. Legend has it that Saint Peter preached here when he landed in Italy; the column placed on the square, a few meters from the sea, commemorates this episode.
