italy's most beautiful renaissance palace was built for duke federico da montefeltro, the ruler of urbino between 1444 and 1482, known for his prowess as a mercenary soldier.
federico was a man of the arts as well as a soldier, and his palace, with his library, paintings and refined architecture, is a monument to the high artistic and intellectual ideal of the renaissance.
