Trajan Markets (via 4 November)
Situated next to the Forum of Trajan, the markets formed an authentic shopping center, extending over two levels and including 150 rooms.
They were almost certainly built by Apollodorus of Damascus, the architect of the Forum of Trajan.
The lower level was semicircular, connected to the rounded doorway at the northeast extremity of the Forum with three rows of storerooms. The market is dominated by a thirteenth-century Militia Tower. |
