Vieste (43 m, 12 798 inhab.) has become a modern holiday resort, with more than 30 camping sites here and in the adjacent villages; it also has an an excellent port with unrestricted mooring (but exstremely crwded in summer).The village is surrounded on three sides by sea, dotted with tiny islands; built on tongues of rock the closely-packed white houses are separated by picturesque narrow streets and flights of steps. The old twn sits on the high, rocky punto San Francesco while the modern district lies on the small lain between this and and punta San Felice. |
